DELVILLE WOODS

info.

A tale of extraordinary bravery in the face of immense and unstoppable forces.

Director: Christopher-lee dos Santos

Producer: Robert dos Santos

Set during the battle of the Somme during World War I, Delville Wood is the true story of the undermanned and ill equipped South African 1st Brigade who are tasked by British High Command to Flank the German army as a diversion for the British forces.

The South African Brigade is soon cut off and surrounded, left to fend for themselves as the British forces are beaten back. For six gruelling days they are forced to fight off attack after attack of constant German advances and ruthless artillery bombardments.

South African soldiers were thought of as inferior and unfit for frontline duty at the time but by the gruelling end they had won the respect of the British high command as well that of their German counterparts.

The story of the Battle of Delville Wood is one of sacrifice, courage, equality and respect.
